Winter Texans

Each winter, several hundred “Winter Texans” call South Padre Island and Island Baptist Church their home. These wonderful people have become a ministry in themselves, having a three-fold mission.

  • Teaching and Instruction – We all join together through IBC’s weekly Sunday school classes, worship services, and small groups to share God’s wisdom through HIS Word.  We are also blessed with a Tuesday morning Bible study during January and February.
  • Fellowship – We have many opportunities to gather for weekly tours, potluck dinners, games, and group meals here at the church and sometimes at local restaurants.  Game night takes place every Friday night in the IBC’s Fellowship Hall.  During January and February we also have a great quilting ministry that meets every Monday from 12:30pm-4:30pm.
  • Service – Our Winter Texans partner with the Island Baptist Church congregation each year to help provide food for IBC’s youth and children ministries.  These wonderful men and women offer prayers for ministries and also pray for each individual child by name.  During the 2023 season, prayer sticks were made with each student’s name on it.  Our Winter Texans each take a stick or sticks home and offer daily prayer for their specific students.  We make salvation bracelets for the youth to take to a migrant camp so they can be passed out to those who do not know the Lord.  In addition, our combined congregation helps with the two food pantries, one at the church and the other at the LH Center.  They participate in the weekly unloading and stocking of food received for distribution, prepacking bags, and then helping with the distribution of food on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays.

Please join us for worship, fellowship and service!

Quilting Ministry

The Quilting ministry at Island Baptist church began in 2004 by Winter Texan Eyvonne Meyer.

The ministry began by making curtains for the El Muscatelle churches school, bags for the kids’ school supplies and providing coloring books for the younger kids.

That first year, without knowing the number of kids attending the school, the number of bags that the ministry had made was the amount of bags needed for all the kids attending that year. God knows the needs of the people! When you work by faith to fulfill a need, God will take care of the rest!

Quilts were made for the Wounded Warriors program and now for the Children of Warriors.

The ministry provides bags, receiving blankets, hats, and burping pads for the former Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Beginning in 2025, Boni Eernisse will be taking over the leadership of this Ministry.

If you are interested in helping with this ministry, they meet during January and February every Monday from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. There will be a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall for bringing food and for leading a devotion during lunch.
